Because I’m Happy!

“Because I’m happy, clap along if you feel like a room without a roof; because I’m happy, clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth; because I’m happy, clap along if you know what happiness is to you; because I’m happy, clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do.” – Pharrell Williams. One line from that song I really like is, “clap along if you know what happiness is to you”. How many of us can truly say we know what happiness is? Happiness means different things to people. Some people look to material things to find their happiness; some look at titles/achievements for happiness; some look to other people for happiness. But the one place we should look for true happiness is God. If you have not found true happiness in Him, all these other things/people will always fall short of your ability to have true happiness. Now, our biggest mistake out of this is relying on our spouse for our happiness; and yes, they can provide temporary happiness, but true long lasting happiness only comes from God.  How many times has your spouse said or done something that makes you mad and you respond with “I just want to be happy”? Well guess what, your happiness has nothing to do with what your spouse did or didn’t do. Your reaction to what your spouse says or does or doesn’t say or doesn’t do relies solely on you. You choose if you are going to be happy or unhappy. You choose if you are going to walk around with an attitude or be loving. If you are looking to your spouse for your happiness, you will never be happy. I’m not saying there aren’t things your spouse can do that won’t bring you happiness, I’m just saying they are not RESPONSIBLE for your happiness. When you “delight in the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4). So, when I look to God for my happiness, He will give me what I desire according to His will. So if my desire is to receive a promotion, I should seek God’s will and do it then watch Him provide me with the promotion He desires for me which in turns add to the happiness I have received from Him. If I desire happiness in my marriage, I go to God for His will concerning my marriage, do what He tells me to do and watch Him bring about the happiness I desire. Happiness all comes back to God. We can only truly be happy when we are pleasing Him. If we are out of His will, we will not achieve true happiness. As much as I love John, he is not responsible for my true happiness. Does he do things that produce happy moments in my life, yes he does, but my true happiness comes from my relationship with God. I must be in a true relationship with God in order to experience happiness in other areas of my life. I spend time in fellowship with God daily, seeking and doing His will for my life, which brings me to my true happiness. If you aren’t happy and blame others for your unhappiness, stop, look at yourself and remember you are causing your own unhappiness; spend time with God and let Him be your source for happiness and then He can use you to help others know true happiness. Questions to think on: Am I putting the responsibility of my happiness on my spouse? Have I truly allowed God to be my source for my happiness?

Be blessed…love y’all for real!
